چکیده
Abstract Background Phlebotomine sand flies are the principal vectors of Leishmania spp. (Kinetoplastida: Trypanosomatidae). Information on in Central Europe is scarce and, to date, Austria, only Phlebotomus mascittii has been recorded. In 2018 and 2019, entomological surveys were conducted Austria with aim further clarify fly distribution species composition. Results a Ph. simici specimen was trapped for first time. Analyses two commonly used marker genes, cytochrome c oxidase I ( cox ) b cytb ), revealed high sequence identity specimens from North Macedonia Greece. Phylogenetic analyses showed intraspecific distances within , thereby dividing this into three lineages: one each Europe, Turkey Israel. Low interspecific between brevis an as yet unidentified Adlerius sp. Armenia highlight how challenging molecular identification complex can be, even when standard genes applied. Conclusion To our knowledge, study reports finding representing northernmost recording date. Moreover, it reveals valuable insights phylogenetic relationships among subgenus . suspected vector L. infantum therefore medical veterinary importance. Potential expansion due climatic change increasing import -infected dogs endemic areas support need studies general. Graphic abstract

Sand Flies of the Subgenus Adlerius (Diptera: Psychodidae) in an Endemic Focus of Visceral Leishmaniasis and Introduction of Phlebotomus (Adlerius) comatus as a New Record for Iran
BACKGROUND Sand flies of subgenus Adlerius has a wide geographical distribution in Iran and are mostly found in wild form in mountainous areas. They are always considered as probable vectors of visceral leishmaniasis. The objective of this study was to determine the Adlerius species and its composition in an endemic focus of zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis in northwest of the country. METHODS...
متن کاملMorphological and Genotypic Variations among the Species of the Subgenus Adlerius (Diptera: Psychodidae, Phlebotomus) in Iran
BACKGROUND Female sand flies of subgenus Adlerius are considered as probable vectors of visceral leishmaniasis in Iran. The objective of this study was to determine the morphological and genotypic variations in the populations of this subgenus in the country. METHODS Sand flies collected using sticky traps from 17 provinces during 2008-2010. The morphometric measurements were conducted with a...
متن کاملNumerical taxonomy of Old World Phlebotominae (Diptera: Psychodidae). 1. Considerations of morphological characters in the genus Phlebotomus Rondani & Berté 1840.
Numerical analyses (correspondence analysis, ascending hierarchical classification, cladistic approach) were applied to the morphological characters of the adults of the genus Phlebotomus Rondani & Berté 1840. They confirm the reliability of the classic classifications, and also redefine the taxonomic and phylogenetic position of certain taxa. Thus, Spelaeophlebotomus Theodor 1948. Idiophleboto...

BACKGROUND Haematophagous females of some phlebotomine sandflies are the only natural vectors of Leishmania species, the causative agents of leishmaniasis in many parts of the tropics and subtropics, including Iran. We report the presence of Phlebotomus (Larroussius) major and Phlebotomus (Adlerius) halepensis in Tonekabon (Mazanderan Province) and Phlebotomus (Larroussius) tobbi in Pakdasht (T...
